T.C. Consulting: Grounded in D&I through Social Change and Proactive Allyship

Quotes that ground T.C. Consulting in the work

Having a solid foundation is key for diversity and inclusion work. Moreover, grounding is vital because one becomes exhausted or discouraged with advocating for others and their self they can refer to the grounding resources to be motivated and re-energized. So, the role of T.C. Consulting in diversity and inclusion is grounded in two quotes. These quotes communicate the intention of diversity and inclusion for the company. Words have power, so these quotes are reminders of who T.C. Consulting is fighting for and what the business is working towards.

Diversity is about all of us and about us having to figure out how to work through this world together.
— Jacqueline Woodson
We all have a voice in the conservation, and the goal, is not to compare relative oppression, but rather, to talk about our common commitment to inclusion for all.
— Jennifer Brown

Diversity and Inclusion as a framework

As Jacqueline Woodson indicated diversity concerns all of us, meaning all identities, communities, and people. Hence, T.C. Consulting believes that diversity, differences, does not have to divide companies and institutions. Instead, diversity should unify us to care about each other and be moved to action because each person deserves equity and inclusion because they matter and add value to the world. The fact of the matter is we need each other for positively transformative change to occur since dismantling systems of oppression will not happen on a large scale until each person takes a stand to disrupt bias and shift their perceptions and behaviors that cause harm. T.C. Consulting helps companies and organizations determine what they can do to acknowledge and embrace differences, foster accountability, build an inclusive community, and develop culturally responsive systems.

As Jennifer Brown inferred inclusion requires all people, companies, and organizations to get involved and have a voice. Inclusion calls for us to integrate all communities into the conversation to be seen, heard, and valued. It is easy to compare experiences or amount of oppression, but collectively establishing equitable standards on how we treat one another and create space for others will help process us what needs to be done for fostering social change. Therefore, T.C. Consulting provides opportunities for companies and institutions to learn what changes are needed from all members and encourage everyone to work together to enhance the organization or school.

T.C. Consulting role as a Social Change Agent and Proactive Ally

The CEO of T.C. Consulting is aware of how minoritized groups are mistreated and degraded, so whether she belongs to the community or not she will go above and beyond to advocate for others. Being silent when one knows behaviors and norms are dehumanizing is extremely toxic to diversity and inclusion. The severity of inaction with awareness is toxic because it allows systems of oppression to continue and strengthen overtime where marginalized communities are never truly free from degrading perceptions and behaviors. The CEO’s call to action for this work was starting a diversity and inclusion consulting firm to be a social change agent and proactive ally for all through organizational and institutional development.

How T.C. Consulting fosters social change and proactive allyship

Regarding diversity and inclusion, T.C. Consulting inspires and challenges companies and schools to do the following:

  • Assess how they dehumanize some while further empowering others

  • Commit to doing better by investing in proactive diversity and inclusion initiatives

  • Determine their ‘why’ for diversity and inclusion efforts

  • Develop practices and norms that are equitable and culturally responsive

  • Foster a climate where unhealthy conflict can be effectively addressed

  • Revamp leadership approaches to be more inclusive for all members to feel heard, seen and valued

  • Equip organizational and institutional members to build trust and openness with holding each other accountable and offering support
